PLANTING

Increasing Tree Canopy and Quality of Life

In conjunction with TreeBaltimore, the Baltimore Orchard Project operates our Planting Program, a mayoral initiative with the goal of increasing the city’s tree canopy to 40% by 2037. Thanks to this partnership, there are now dozens of new orchards growing in Baltimore’s parks, schoolyards, congregational properties, and other community spaces.

So far, we have planted over 2,000 trees throughout Baltimore City. Over their lifetimes, these trees will provide thousands of pounds of fruit for city residents. Contact us so we can plant with you!

Planting Resources

  • Want to know where we’ve planted?
Check out our Baltimore City harvest map!

  • Interested in bringing the benefits of an orchard to your community? We can provide your group with free fruit and nut trees through TreeBaltimore. We help groups plan their orchard spaces and organize planting days for installation. We also provide orchard consultation and design services on a sliding scale.

Once you have sent us an email a volunteer member of the BOP team will be in touch to talk about the next steps in planning and planting your orchard.

  • If you have already planted an orchard with BOP and are interested in adding additional trees or if you need support in other areas please feel free to email us and we will see what we can do to help.

  • One of the greatest resources for any urban orchardist is Bounty: An Orchardist’s Illustrated Guide to a Fruitful Harvest. Bounty is our original month-by-month guide to fruit tree care created for Baltimore’s climate.
